microorganisms that cause
skin lesions, bringing about the self-destruction of those bacteria
and allowing the skin to return to a healthy, normal state. In the
case of acne, the P. acnes bacterium is the root cause of 90% of all
acne pimples.
Zeno is a simple electronic product designed to safely heat an
acne lesion to a pre-set temperature range, known to generate heat
shock response which participates in the bacteria’s death by causing
the bacteria to self-destruct.
Zeno Treatment
Pimples occur when excess skin oil and flaking skin plug the opening
of a hair follicle and create the ideal environment for acne
bacteria to grow. Precisely controlled heat applied for a specific
period of time causes the bacteria to self-destruct. When the
bacteria dies, the pimple goes away.
Zeno applies a precisely controlled heat dose directly to the pimple
through a metal pad.
Safe, painless, and effective acne treatment
Zeno can clear up a pimple in just hours. Two to three 2½-minute
treatments spread over 24 hours are sufficient for most pimples.
Often, only one treatment is needed. Most other medications can take
days or even weeks to work.
Patients included in our clinical trials experienced little reaction
to the low-level heat. Other than some temporary skin redness
following a treatment cycle, no other adverse side effects were
reported. 96% of the blemishes treated with Zeno achieved resolution
or improvement within 48 hours and 100% of the blemishes treated
with Zeno achieved resolution or improvement within 72 hours. All
subjects strongly agreed that they were confident that they could
use Zeno without supervision by a doctor.

Prescription Acne Medications AND Systemic
Treatments/Topical Preparations
In some patients OTC acne medications may cause side effects such as
skin irritation, burning, or redness. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic
acid can cause skin irritation and drying. When properly used, these
products may contribute to a reduction and lessen the severity of
acne in some individuals; however, over-the-counter acne medications
do little to impact the blemishes that inevitably occur. The
problems with at home treatment of acne have led many to seek
prescription meds.
A variety of prescription medicine methods are used to prevent and
treat acne: pill, topical, and injectables. Topical therapies such
as Retin-A account for roughly half of the prescription acne
medicine market. Systemic therapies such as Acutane make up the
other half of this market. In general, mild to moderate acne cases
are treated with topical medications, with more severe acne cases
being treated with systemic or a combination of topical and systemic
therapies. Antibiotics taken by mouth are often prescribed for
moderate to severe cases, especially when there is a significant
amount of acne on the back or chest. Antibiotic treatment is used to
kill the bacteria P. acnes that cause acne flares. Prescription oral
and topical medicines are sometimes combined. Problems exist with
most of these acne treatment options. Acutane has been linked to
serious side effects. Antibiotics are not as useful as they once
were, as P. acnes have developed resistance to them.
Recently
Introduced Prescription Acne Therapies
Recently, prescription acne therapies have been introduced to the
dermatology community involving either UV light or laser. While
these therapies are making some inroads to the acne treatment
market, they not only require medical supervision, but they involve
potentially harmful radiation, substantial investment in equipment
and very high treatment costs. Finally, none of these therapies have
been shown to be as effective at treating blemishes as Zeno
