Photodynamic Therapy

Q: Laser & IPL (Intense Pilse Light) PDT
A: PDT works in combination with light or laser sources to combat the effects of sun damage. It works by targeting the sun damaged skin, reducing red and brown spots in the skin, This non-invasive photorejuvenation treatment has been shown to improve sun damaged areas and improve texture and overall appearance.

Q: Light Therapy for ACNE
A: Used in conjunction with a blue light for the effective treatment of acne. This procedure improves acne by targeting sebaceous glands and bacteria which are destroyed in the PDT treatment by the blue light.

Q: Will I feel any discomfort?
A: Most patients experience minimal discomfort . during PDT therapy within the standard course of . treatment. The procedure usually takes less than an hour to perform. Expect slight redness and peeling/flaking of the outer skin cells up to 3-4 days following treatment. Under the light source you will feel slight warmth, but will not receive a tan. You will need to stay indoors for 24 hours following the procedure and avoid light since the PDT therapy is still active.

Q: Advantage over other treatment
A: PDT is one of the most effective treatments.
• Quick response (only I-3 treatments are required) Easily performed in a specialty clinic environment
• Non-invasive (no needles or surgery required)
• Excellent cosmetic outcome (improved colouring,
texture and tone)

Other treatments can take up to 4 months vs a very quick response with PDT (upto 6 weeks).

Q: How many treatment will I need?
A:While initial results may be seen as early as the first session, some patients require a series of three to five sessions to see significant results. However, it really depends on the patient and the severity of the skin condition being treated.

Q: How Successful is it?
A: Up to 90% of patients undergoing treatments have recieved tremendous results.

Q: Are the results permanent?
A: PDT is a treatment, not a cure. Most results will last 1-2 years, depending on lifestyle choices.
